Rwanda, and the Nyamasheke district in particular, is renowned for its high quality floral, sweet and herbal coffees. The elevation of Kilimbi is ideal for producing exceptional washed, honeys and naturals. Drying beds stretch across a large open plain, where airflow and sunlight have maximum exposure to the coffee as it dries. Built in 2016, it is the birthplace of the Muraho Trading Company as its first washing station.
The brainchild of two brothers who were raised to call Rwanda home, Muraho Trading Company focuses on the production of speciality coffees. They believe strongly in creating something more personal about the people and origin of Rwanda and showcasing to the world the phenomenal quality of coffee their country has to offer.
This partnership helps the member cooperatives to improve the quality of their production, get a higher price for their coffee and access new markets. It is an ongoing process to develop a model that takes into account the specific challenges faced by Rwandan coffee producers.
